What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are a common cosmetic dental treatment that can improve the aesthetic appearance of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry can give you more self-confidence and satisfaction with their overall appearance.
A porcelain veneer is a thin laminate of ceramic that is bonded to the tooth service, porcelain closely resembles tooth enamel making it an ideal option to create a natural looking tooth. Since veneers require a small amount of tooth enamel for adhesion and so the tooth feels natural, teeth should be mostly healthy and free from decay and gum disease for optimal results. If your teeth have been damaged, porcelain crowns may be a more suitable option for you.
The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
The main benefits of porcelain veneers are that they area durable and long-term solution, stain resistant and minimal tooth preparation is needed. Porcelain veneers can also give your teeth a dramatically improved aesthetic appearance while also appearing natural.
If you have teeth which are chipped, broken or worn then porcelain veneers may be suitable. Porcelain veneers can also be used to fix teeth that are irregularly shaped or misaligned, as well as fix problems of discoloration, staining and gaps in your teeth.
The Procedure for Porcelain Veneers
A porcelain veneer treatment can be completed within two appointments, the first visit will be focused on preparing the tooth service while the second appointment will involve the application of the veneer. There will be a two week wait between your first and second appointment as the porcelain veneer is made in the dental laboratory.
In certain cases, an additional follow up visit may be required for shade analysis or further aesthetic assessment so as to ensure the veneering treatment has been successful.
