Dental Treatment While you Sleep.
What is Sleep Dentistry?
If you are particularly nervous about dental treatment or have a child who becomes distressed when visiting the dentist, we can perform procedures under a general anaesthetic also known as sleep dentistry.
It is a treatment that is ideal for people who suffer from extreme dental phobia, cognitive disabilities or involuntary muscle movement during dental procedures.
What are the Benefits of Sleep Dentistry?
The benefits of sleep dentistry are that it allows patients to completely relax during their appointment, alleviates gag reflex tendencies and minimises teeth and gum sensitivity for patients. Sleep dentistry means long or complex dental procedures can be completed in one appointment and facilitates the numbing process for those who have difficulty becoming numb from oral injections.
When you experience sleep dentistry you will be completely unaware of the dental treatment and you will have no memory of the procedure you had. A trained medical anaesthetist is present at all times to monitor the sedation process, ensuring that the patient is safe during the procedure.
Although you will not need to be hospitalised and the recovery time is about an hour, you will need a responsible adult to accompany you home and spend the rest of the day and overnight with you as the sedative wears off.
