Our clinic will be closed on Good Friday through to Easter Monday.

Remember it’s a good idea to rinse out that chocolate or chew some sugar-free gum afterwards to help reduce the risk of dental decay.

Take care and make it a good one in 2016!

Kew Dentistry’s take on World Oral Health Day (WOHD) 2016

WOHD 2016

“It’s never too late to start looking after your oral health.”

Another year, another World Oral Health Day! This year’s catch-cry follows the idea that you have to start somewhere.

Your mouth is in a dynamic state of equilibrium and your oral health is no different. Like most aspects of life you have your good days and bad and it’s all about maintaining a healthy profile with more of the good and less of the bad!

WOHD 2016 brings awareness to your mouth and your oral health, so that social and community change can improve oral health outcomes for everyone. So simply just start talking about it!

So,  ask a friend or family member, “What is your daily oral hygiene habits?”

You’ll be surprised by the different habits people have to keep their teeth clean. Brushing once, twice or more, 2 minutes, one minute, electric, manual, flossing twice, mouthwash, water jet, dental brush, flossettes….the array of options and techniques used varies, but what is right for you?

This is where your dentist can come in with advice,

Refer to our Oral Hygiene Blog on some great tips but in general we recommend:

– Twice daily brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush

– Use Fluoridated toothpaste or if you choose not to ask your dentist how you can protect your teeth as your risk of decay will be higher.

– Flossing at least once daily in an up/down or window-washing manner

– Also, in general, Mouthwash should only be used if recommended by your dentist.

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS) at Kew Dentistry

Gianni Bramante

Friday, March 18, 2016

shutterstock_58774165Get in Quick!!! The Federal Government is looking to call time of their Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS). The scheme gives access to $1000 of preventative and restorative dental treatment over a 2-year period to children aged between 2 and 17. It is exclusively reserved for people who qualify under Family Tax Benefit A. If you qualify, contact Medicare for a consent form or if your details are correct you will receive notification via mail.

However, be quick, according to the latest federal budget from the Liberal Government and recent media reports (http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/27-billion-dental-program-likely-to-get-the-chop-20160310-gnfiji.html), the CDBS will be phased out over the next 6 months and unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a viable replacement policy.

Save the SDBS

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) is lobbying to maintain this crucial funding that has been giving access to dental care to vulnerable children. Tackling dental care from the grass roots is the proven way to improve overall dental health in the community. They have organised a petition aimed at reversing the poor decision of policy makers. If you feel as strongly about improving the oral health or young Australians, the future of our country, please help us and take 2 minutes to sign the change.org petition via this link, https://www.change.org/p/federal-minister-for-health-the-hon-sussan-ley-mp-stop-the-government-axing-free-dental-care-for-kids.

A final word, if you or your child is CDBS eligible, simply book an appointment today for a check-up to ensure your child’s teeth are protected now and into the future and take advantage of this great preventive scheme before it’s too late.
